Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Director, DevAR Communications and Advancement, the Senior Associate Director is a key figure in supporting all of the College’s alumnae engagement and fundraising initiatives through a variety of critical responsibilities. He/she/they will create content, collateral, and other communications assets that are vital to developing and sustaining long-term relationships between Barnard and its key constituencies with the goal of cultivating substantial engagement with, and financial support for, the College. The Senior Associate Director will oversee the Manager, Development and Alumnae Communications, and also be responsible for serving as a department leader in digital marketing strategy through managing Barnard Alumnae social media channels, overseeing website and broadcast email outreach, and more.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Actively participate in creating and implementing integrated marketing campaigns for Development and Alumnae Relations events and programs utilizing the department’s various print, digital, and social media platforms.
Supervise, administer, and create content for Barnard Alumnae social media channels. Expand Barnard Alumnae’s social media presence, including introducing paid social advertising to Development and Alumnae Communications strategy, increasing digital engagement around fundraising, and collaborating with the central Communications team to grow audience, scope, and reach.
Oversee the Manager of Development and Alumnae Communications, a key figure in supporting the work of the Office of Development and Alumnae Relations with a variety of digital marketing and administrative responsibilities.
Oversee the administration and updating the Development and Alumnae Relations websites, keeping all content up-to-date and engaging, brainstorming and executing strategic ways to use the websites, and addressing back-end issues that affect website functionality.
Develop written, video, and other content promoting engagement with Barnard College and the Alumnae Association of Barnard College for publishing across Development and Alumnae Relations websites and other communications channels.
Partner with the Director and the College’s editorial staff to strategize and create Development and Alumnae Relations content for Barnard Magazine.
Work collaboratively across the Development and Alumnae Relations department to ensure all communications are meeting the College’s visual identity and style guidelines, making adjustments and enhancements where necessary.
Proactive about thinking of and acting on ways to improve our work across the department and ways to increase collaboration with our central Communications department.
Assist in the communication of key messages to various stakeholders and constituencies through the development of letters, speeches, talking points, and personal responses.
Proofread and copy edit a wide variety of departmental materials and communications in order to ensure utmost accuracy and consistency.
Serve as point person for the College’s various campus departments and centers, assisting and executing efforts to promote their programs to alumnae.
Conduct interviews of volunteers, faculty, and other stakeholders for the creation of content.
Liaise with other departments/offices and individuals, including volunteers, faculty members, and senior level administrators across the College, as necessary.
The Senior Associate Director serves as the point person for Development and Alumnae Communications in the Senior Director’s absence.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Highly creative and strategic thought-leader.
Understanding of the roles of, and best practices for, print and digital marketing including experience with communications campaigns that incorporate web, social, email, publication, and other channels.
Capacity to handle multiple creative and writing assignments with rapid turnaround.
Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in multiple “voices.”
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including expert-level proofreading and editing skills.
Demonstrated computer skills, particularly with relational databases and programs within Microsoft Office.
Ability to both work independently and actively and meaningfully engage as a member of a team.
Strong organizational skills, creativity, and resourcefulness, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines.
Ability to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and performance as evidenced by collaborative teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, good judgment, consistency of output, timeliness of follow-through, and creativity.
Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of Barnard College and higher education, generally, as well as an understanding of the principles and techniques of constituent engagement and fundraising.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
Five years relevant experience in the development, alumni relations, marketing/communications, or related field
Superior written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with desktop publishing applications such as Microsoft Publisher and/or Adobe Creative Suite preferred, but not required.
Supervisory experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform customary office tasks, such as sitting, walking, standing, computing, and answering telephone for moderate to prolonged periods of time, combined with light to moderate reaching, bending, and lifting.

Additional Information:

This job is primarily performed remotely/hybrid, but will require a presence in the New York City office (in addition to duties previously specified as on-site) for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.

Salary Range: $81,300 - $85,000
